Finally finished building my bro a website and it looks pretty fresh, if I do say so myself. Check it out!

The Website
Hey guys,
Well, the animation may be finished (it’ll be uploaded to Vimeo at some point once I finally get the export settings right) but your humble host works on! The next project I’ve got going on is building a website for myself, so done a couple of concept designs. The actual thing will be built in Flash and/or HTML 5 if I can be bothered to learn it and will feature lots of subtle animations and easter eggs.
Screenshots! Woo!

The portfolio page, all of my animation and web design works will be displayed here. Wanted to go for a futuristic, digital, holograph-y type feel for the theme.

Blog (Or Data Log) page. Will post updates on how projects are advancing and images for personal projects.
Let me know what you think so far, and I’ll keep working!

The Many Faces of Manny
Hey guys,
Yeah yeah I know it’s been a while. But I haven’t been sitting on my thumbs doing nothing, I’ve been hard at work on the actual animation (which I can’t show you because the filesize is massive). I’ll split it into parts and upload it one of these days but for now I’ve got some initial renders of my mannequins’ face.
First I tried to animate them using passive objects, softbodies and a gravity dynamic… But that didn’t work. Then I tried to use driven keys… Which didn’t work either. Then I finally settled on using good ol’ blendshapes to animate the facial features. There’ll be a video of him going between faces but for now you’ll have to make do with these three images:

So yeah, stay tuned for more updates on… THE DAN SHOW!!!

The Environment
Hey guys,
Pretty sure my environment’s about 90% finished. Just need to add a little bit more mess, since it’s supposed to be an artists’ studio and right now it looks as bland as an empty hospital ward.

Changes since the shadow pass:
- Added a cardboard box to serve as Mannys’ workshop
- Added another emotion onto the canvases
- Replaced the bookshelf with mounted wall shelves and added random items
- Changed the blank white wall texture with painted white brick
- Changed the floor texture to an older, more attic-y looking wood
- Messed with the lighting
- Added blank canvases in the corner
- Changed the window to a more rounded shape
I’m getting close to animating now, I can feel it! Let me know what you think, maybe what I should do to make it look more… lived-in.
Thanks in advance!

Hey guys,
As promised, here’s the first minute of my animatic. This is a low-res version but the timings are pretty accurate, so chances are this will become the final product after a major graphical upgrade.
Hopefully it won’t take me another four months to update this thing again.

The “It’s About Time” Update
Hey guys,
Wow, it’s been a while. Well, I think it’s time to update y’all on my progress over the holiday season and beyond, so here I go:
1. The main protagonist mannequin (Manny) has got a new coat of paint and a couple more poses added to his repertoire.

2. Manny’s lady friend - Missy - has been modelled, textured, rigged, weighted and had some poses added to her, as well as composited into the main scene.

3. A full minute of high-quality animatic has been produced. The video will be uploaded after this post.
4. Lighting tests have been produced and finalised, decided to go with some spotlights to illuminate areas of interest, as well as have an ambient light for the rest of it. Behold the mighty Shadow Pass!

Things to do next: Fill the Apartment setting with stuff, model the heads of Manny wearing the faces, create more poses for Missy and find some more portraitures for the remaining paintings against the back wall.
I’m back, baby!

A low-res version of my storyboard, made into video form! Hope you enjoy watching it as much as I didn’t enjoy making it!

The Storyboard
Hey guys,
Since Tumblr decided to only allow ten photos to be in a slideshow at once, and that my storyboard stands at over 40, I’ve uploaded all of them to PhotoBucket and shall now provide a link, for your viewing pleasure :)
